Did You Know?
The Richmond Township Fire Protection District operates with 100% part-time personnel. Unlike many full-time fire departments, the District does not provide:
- Pension benefits
- Health insurance
- Paid employee benefits
Like many fire districts, we work hard to provide reliable emergency services while operating within our available funding. We believe it’s important for our community to understand how your fire district operates and the challenges of maintaining emergency services with limited resources.
Even so, our members continue to answer emergency calls, train to state standards, and provide fire and EMS services to our community every day.
Did You Know?
Operating with part-time personnel helps the Richmond Township Fire Protection District manage personnel costs responsibly. However, our staffing model also presents unique challenges.
Less than 25% of Fire District members actually live within the District. This means we cannot rely solely on members responding from their homes when a call comes in. To provide dependable and timely emergency response, we need to staff the station with personnel who are already there and ready to respond.
Personnel costs are only one part of providing emergency services. The District must still fund:
• Fire engines and ambulances
• Emergency medical equipment
• Firefighter protective gear
• Training and state-required certifications
• Fuel, utilities, insurance, and building maintenance
• Radios, hoses, tools, and other emergency equipment
While our staffing model helps reduce costs, the expenses of operating a modern fire department continue to rise each year. Our goal is to provide the highest level of Fire and EMS service possible while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

How Your Fire District Is Funded
Did you know? The Richmond Township Fire Protection District relies on two major sources of revenue: property taxes and ambulance billings.
Residents who receive ambulance services are not balance billed after insurance. Insurance payments help support the emergency services we provide to our community.
